IMPATIENCE |
Of the many actions or stands one can take, that of impatience strikes me as the most irrational.
Very simply, impatience can only make you miss things and lose opportunities. There is no
benefit for the impatient. I have pondered the actual source of impatience, but could find no logical explanation for its evolution. It has no function whatsoever. In my humble opinion, impatience is an evolutionary flaw. There is a saying that goes "Good things come to those who wait". I prefer my very own "Patience prevails". Someone who exercises patience is immune to numerous psychological entrapments. The calmness and serenity that surrounds a patient man makes him a better team player as well. As opposed to stubbornness, patience requires no physical effort at all. It is the delay of action that defines patience. Thus it is puzzling that so many people avoid developing their patience, when all they need to do is make a small psychological effort. It is my conviction that someone who refrain from improving his psychological endurance is destined to tread water in terms of character developement. I think the main reason people do not try to improve their patience, is the compulsory self-criticism they have to put themselves though first. In order to improve yourself you first have to willingly state: "I am not good enough". For people without adequate patience, it is a very hard step. I consider crude impatience to be one of the most negative traits someone can have. It doesn't only hinder a person's advance through life, but also prevents him from broadening to its full potential. I hope I can one day shrug off all the traces of impatience within me, for then I will finally feel that I've completed one of the most important steps in my quest for self-accomplishment. |
